Definition and Function of Cookies
Cookies are text files that contain small amounts of information that are downloaded in your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are sent back to the original website at each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises them. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise the user’s device. Cookies can perform different functions such as allowing you to navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improving user navigation.
Types of Cookies
As for the types of cookies, these are classified according to the entity that manages them. Thus, we have our own cookies and those owned by third parties; according to the term that remain activated (session or persistent); and according to its purpose (technical, customisation, analysis, advertising and behavioural advertising).
SESSION COOKIES: Cookies designed to gather and store data while users access a website. They are used to store information useful only to provide the service requested by the user in a single session.
PERSISTENT COOKIES: Cookies in which the data is stored in the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period of time defined by the person responsible for the cookies. The period may vary from a few minutes to several years.

CUSTOMISATION COOKIES: These allow users to access the service with certain general characteristics based on a predefined set of criteria in the user’s terminal.
ANALYSIS COOKIES: These allow the person responsible for the cookie to follow-up and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they refer.
ADVERTISING COOKIES: These allow the management, in the most effective manner possible, of advertising spaces, if the publisher has included a website, application or platform from providing the requested service based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency in which ads are displayed.
BEHAVIOURAL ADVERTISING COOKIES: These allow the management of advertising spaces that the publisher has included a website, application or platform from providing the requested service. These cookies store information on users behaviour obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, allowing to develop a specific profile to display ads based on the same.
